About the European Climate Foundation

The European Climate Foundation (ECF) was founded in 2008 as a major philanthropic initiative to help tackle climate change by fostering the development of a low-carbon society at the national, European and global level.

We support over 280 partner organisations to carry out activities that contribute to the public debate on climate action, drive urgent and ambitious policy in support of the objectives of the Paris Agreement and help deliver a socially responsible transition to a net-zero emissions economy and sustainable society in Europe and around the world.

About the role

The Land Use programme of the ECF is a new initiative to help Europe address greenhouse gases from the land-use sector, both in Europe and internationally. The programme will work with a wide range of partners in civil society, think tanks, business groups and the research community in support of positive action to change the debate about land use and climate change and to accelerate policy solutions in the areas of agriculture, food, forests and nature.

This role offers the opportunity to help shape the direction of a new programme and is a truly exciting opportunity for the right person to grow, develop topical expertise and build their network.

Key responsibilities

  • Programme support: planning and organising internal and external meetings, taking notes in meetings, preparing slides and attending and reporting back from relevant events, processing expenses and invoices and dealing with travel logistics;
  • Grant-making: working with the programme director, other programmes and the ECF’s grant- making support hub, the Associate will help ensure the entire grantmaking cycle. This includes providing input into the grant-making strategy, reviewing and evaluating grantee proposals, preparing draft grant recommendations, acting as a liaison with grantees, and helping to manage the programme budget;
  • Research: conducting research in support of programme fundraising work and supporting management of ECF commissioned studies;
  • Representation: where appropriate, representing the ECF at external event;
  • She/he will report to the Director for Land Use.

Experience and competencies

  • At least two years of relevant work experience in either a civil society organisation, philanthropy, public authority, or similar. Knowledge of European climate policy, especially (but not necessarily) agriculture, forest and other land-use policies that are relevant for the climate debate;
  • Genuine interest in the mission and values of the ECF;
  • Excellent command of English (both spoken and written). Other European languages an advantage;
  • Strong administrative and computer skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word);
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks;
  • Enthusiastic personality and a sense of humor and ability to work in a multi-culturale environment.

What we offer

  • The unique opportunity to work as part of a highly dynamic, international group of individuals who combine their passion to make a difference with a rigorous and results-oriented approach to work;
  • A flexible work environment and a space to develop and challenge yourself;
  • A full-time 1-year contract (with possibility to be extended).
