JOB DESCRIPTION

The adviser will be part of a team that is responsible for the representation of the interests of Europe’s co-operative banks on legislative, supervisory and other European initiatives in the area of retail banking, payments, financial markets, including the impact of digitalisation and sustainable finance related measures. The person in question will report to the Head of the Department. Her or his portfolio will comprise the following tasks:

  • The monitoring of European initiatives (legislative or self-regulatory) relevant for cooperative banks in the area of retail banking. Areas of particular interest are bank accounts, lending and borrowing, savings and more horizontal topics such as consumer rights, e-commerce;
  • Providing regular updates to member organisations about latest development regarding regulatory policies, self-regulatory initiatives or other interesting developments (by emails, internal memos and reports);
  • Drafting of position papers, letters, speeches and other relevant documents for internal and external distribution;
  • Establishment and maintenance of relevant networks with EU relevant bodies (officials of the European Commission/European Parliament/Council/EBA and other relevant bodies) and also with member organisations and other relevant trade associations;
  • Represent the interests of member organisations in meetings and lobbying towards EU Institutions (European Commission, European Parliament, Council, European Banking Authority and other relevant bodies);
  • The organisation and animation of the meetings of the EACB Consumer Policy Working Group;
  • From time to time, support the running of the secretariat of the European Banking Industry Committee (EBIC).

PROFILE

  • Distinct interest in retail banking, the impact of fintech and regulatory developments and the process of interest representation;
  • University degree (Master’s level) in economics, (EU) law or business administration;
  • 3 year work experience in the area of retail banking, financial service policy making or in European Affairs;
  • Good knowledge of EU institutions and EU decision making processes;
  • Fluent written and spoken English. Knowledge of other official languages of the European Union is also appreciated;
  • Good communication skills, excellent drafting and analytical skills;
  • Capacity to work independently;
  • Be a good team-player with strong inter-personal skills and ability to work efficiently under time pressure;
  • Be a quick learner.
