The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) is looking for an ambitious and energetic Knowledge Manager to join its team working specifically as part of the Innovation for All Knowledge Hub in the Knowledge Solutions Department.

ICC is the world’s largest business organisation with a network reaching 45 million members in more than 100 countries. We work to promote international trade, responsible business conduct and a global approach to regulation through a unique mix of advocacy and standard setting activities - together with market-leading dispute resolution services.

ICC’s Knowledge Solutions Department is responsible for the organisation’s full suite of policy, standard setting and advocacy activities, with a strong focus on trade and investment. This includes: providing substantive policy input into key international processes; developing industry rules and guidelines to facilitate international trade and promote responsible business practices; and providing influential thought leadership on major global trade issues.

ICC’s policy positions are developed through consultation with member companies and associations in over 100 countries – including through 12 specialist groups of policy experts and a number of special projects.

The Knowledge Manager will support the work of the Innovation for All Knowledge Hub, and have specific responsibility for strengthening ICC’s leadership position in the area of intellectual property. This will include managing ICC’s Commission on Intellectual Property, which is comprised of over 400 business executives and private practitioners from 50 countries. S/he will also be given responsibilities for other areas of ICC’s work as required.

ICC seeks a candidate with knowledge and experience in intellectual property and proven project management skills, and who has the flexibility and interest to contribute to/lead other subject areas in ICC’s work programme.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Driving and managing ICC’s work in intellectual property including the day-to-day running of the Commission on Intellectual Property and its work programme, including managing projects and teams of external experts, development of publications and papers, and organisation of meetings;
  • Responsibility for or contribution to other areas under the responsibility of the Knowledge Solutions Department as required;
  • Handling collaborations and relationships with external intergovernmental, business and non-governmental organisations working in related fields;
  • Advocacy of ICC positions and external representation of ICC in international meetings and events;
  • Proactive monitoring of political/macro-economic/technological developments within relevant subject areas;
  • Proposing actions to respond to developments and liaising with other Knowledge hubs as and when needed;
  • Occasional international travel may be required.

Education, Experience and Skills:

  • Higher-level education in relevant disciplines, such as law or business;
  • 5-7 years professional experience, including in the field of intellectual property policy, and in an international environment;
  • Training and/or experience in intellectual property law and policy;
  • Demonstrated project management and organisational skills, coordination capacity and autonomy;
  • Strong communication and persuasion skills in writing and orally;
  • Ability to coordinate the work of partners and colleagues who are international, multicultural and multilingual;
  • Ability to collaborate with executive management, international corporations, intergovernmental organisations;
  • Able to work collegially as part of a small team;
  • Perfect written and spoken English; knowledge of other languages, in particular French, would be a plus;
  • Capacity to work under pressure and to deliver tangible results to fixed deadlines;
  • Capacity to manage numerous projects at the same time;
  • Ability to take initiatives;
  • Collegial spirit.

Work relations:

The Knowledge manager will report to the Director of the Innovation for All Knowledge Hub.

The Knowledge manager will also work with:

  • All ICC departments;
  • National committees and groups;
  • Trade Finance decision-makers and specialists;
  • Chambers of commerce;
  • Experts, members of ICC Policy expert groups.
