SoundCloud is looking for a talented digital media lawyer to join its Business & Legal Affairs team in Berlin. The Role

This is a role within the Business & Legal Affairs team, and will support SoundCloud’s Creator & Listener teams, a critical part of SoundCloud’s Product organization. The Creator & Listener teams focus on delivering the best possible experiences for all SoundCloud users, and you will be working in close partnership with the product managers and others within the team.

Your responsibilities will include

Product Compliance

You will provide legal advice and guidance to the team throughout the product development process. This will involve consideration of a wide variety of issues from GDPR/data protection compliance to copyright laws to platform trust & safety.

You will be expected to build strong and collaborative relationships with the product team, and to help them find solutions to difficult problems. You will need to be patient, solution-oriented and have a clear sense of acceptable compromise.

SoundCloud Go/Go+

You will support the product team in the international roll-out of SoundCloud Go/Go+. This will include advice regarding the localisation of the product, and in particular those compromises that need to be made in order to comply with local consumer protection, data protection and similar laws.

You will work with other lawyers in the Business & Legal Affairs team, and with outside counsel as required, to deliver the advice needed to continue building SoundCloud Go/Go+ into the world’s leading music subscription service.

Product Marketing

You will advise on product marketing initiatives targeted at listeners. This may include performance marketing, email marketing, push notifications and other similar initiatives.

You will report initially to the Company’s General Counsel in New York.

Your qualifications

  • Qualified lawyer* with at least 5 years’ relevant experience;
  • Good understanding of ecommerce, digital music rights and the privacy landscape in Europe and the US;
  • Experience of working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment;
  • Creative problem solver;
  • Comfortable dealing with uncertainty and ambiguity;
  • Pragmatic, risk-based approach to problems;
  • Self-aware and values-driven;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Fluent in English;
  • EU citizen, or right to work in Germany.

* qualified in the US, UK or any European civil law jurisdiction.
