Job description

You will join the expanding business development team and take responsibility in leading a team of Business Development Managers in their efforts to undertake marketing campaigns and secure project awards with our clients, with a focus on the European Commission services of DEVCO, NEAR and FPI.

Reporting directly to the Business Director, you will be associated in the business development management team key decisions and will provide active contribution in the strategy and be responsible to lead and achieve growth. You will lead and supervise all the various tasks related to the preparation of commercial offers of your team, including the tasks related to the recruitment of consultants.

You will be required to demonstrate a combination of discipline, flexibility, and precision in all tasks while counting on a network of experts and partners and sounds clients’ knowledge.

In this role you will be responsible to lead some of the diversification effort and grow the environment and natural resource management sectors in priority and will launch a strategy to enter the governance and economic development sectors as well. You will need to have specific experiences and track record in those sectors and a precise view of the markets, partners and experts.

As professional leader, your role will quire leadership and mentorship responsibilities within your team and the business development team in general. As a recognized specialist of the EC external aid you will have a strong entrepreneurship mentality and driven to achieve results.

Additionally, you’ll be required to

  • Ensure the marketing responsibility of a team of 3-4 Business Development Managers;
  • Ensure the identification and investigation of new business opportunities and the follow-up of a pipeline of projects at various stages of maturity and take the leadership on the related strategic bid campaigns;
  • Implement the Stantec business development process to deliver first class quality offers; ensure quality control of the deliverables of your team members;
  • Participate to the drafting of technical proposals and preparation of budgets in the context of international tenders;
  • Take responsibility in building consortium, collect business intelligence, in the preparation of expressions of interest and tender proposals;
  • Engage with clients and partners, conduct field missions as appropriate.

Requested profile

Applicants should as a minimum have the following qualifications and skills:

  • Academic background: university degree (or equivalent);
  • Minimum 8 to 10 years of experience in a similar function, with proven track record of successful proposals (name of the projects to be submitted with the application);
  • A technical understanding of at least one of the following sectors: environment and natural resource management, governance and economic development;
  • Excellent knowledge of the European Commission external aid market and procurement procedures;
  • Ideally knowledge and experience with an additional donor (i.e. EIB, DFID, KFW, GIZ, World Bank or EBRD);
  • Experiences as leader of a team, ability to supervise, coach and organise the workload and priorities of team members;
  • Commercial judgment and financial management expertise;
  • IT-skills: advanced use of MS Office, particularly Excel;
  • Rigorous, accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Creative, communicative, open-minded and results-oriented;
  • Languages: solid written and spoken English and ideally French;
  • Work ethics, dynamism and ability to cope with multiple tasks and stressful situations.
