You are experienced, creative and motivated to reverse the course of global ecocide. You are familiar with climate policies and you know how the EU institutions work. You can spot the difference between greenwash and policies that actually trigger systemic changes. You enjoy developing political strategies just as much as implementing them, and you are equally comfortable talking with politicians, civil servants, the media, and grassroots activists. You are reliable, constructive, and pay attention to detail. You understand the power of campaigning to trigger political change. You have at least seven years’ relevant experience.

Overall purpose of the position

To promote the climate policies and political reforms necessary for system change in Europe, through high-quality advocacy to influence EU politics.

Main responsibilities

  • Monitor and analyse relevant EU political affairs, and help Greenpeace develop effective responses to emerging political opportunities;
  • As part of a team, design, represent and advocate Greenpeace positions with the aim of influencing EU policies on climate change;
  • Cooperate with campaigners across Europe to provide strategic advice and policy expertise;
  • Establish and maintain active relations with EU institutions;
  • Partner with other NGOs and strategic allies to form common advocacy positions;
  • Draft briefings, letters and other advocacy materials, ensuring consistent and accurate communication on EU issues;
  • Act as a spokesperson for the media and in public;
  • Help identify communication and campaign opportunities.

Relevant qualifications and skills

  • Desire to actively contribute to the protection of nature and to political change;
  • At least seven years of relevant professional experience;
  • Excellent policy analysis and strategic planning;
  • Experience in viewing environmental policies in terms of campaign opportunities;
  • Good knowledge of the decision-making processes of EU institutions;
  • Experience in drafting legislative proposals;
  • Detailed understanding of climate change policies;
  • Good with numbers and understanding of economic arguments;
  • Self-motivated and stress-resistant team player;
  • Very good spoken and written English, and fluency in at least one other EU language;
  • Used to working with people from different backgrounds;
  • Good networking skills.
